INTRODUCTION

Business communications, and writing generally, are part of our work and personal lives. We need good business writing skills throughout our working days and in the day-to-day conduct of our lives. We need skill not only in developing content, important as that is, but the content needs to be supported by the "first impression" of the format in which it is presented. Knowledge of the conventions of business communication styles and formats is needed in order to prepare various types of letters, memos, resumes, and reports we may be called upon to write.

The basics of the various forms of business communications are presented in these pages to give you a simple guide for these not always pleasant, but certainly necessary tasks. Several tools for assessing your understanding of the materials will also be presented.

In addition, I will provide you with related sources currently available on the Internet. For example, check the Purdue Online Writing Center for some important tips on general business writing style for a North American business audience. (But please don't forget to come back.)
